2004年滚石杂志《Rolling Stones》评选了史上最伟大的500首歌“The RS 500 Greatest Songs of All Time ”。又有新排名出现:鲍勃·迪伦的《like a rolling stone》被选为“历史上最伟大的500首歌曲”第一位。紧随其后的是滚石乐队的《(I Cant Get No)Satisfaction》和约翰·列农的《Imagine》。
《滚石》称迪伦改变了时代观念,迪伦的登顶歌曲来自其1965年的专辑《Highway 61 Revisited》。这首长达6分钟的歌打破了迪伦作为“3分钟民谣歌手”的身份,从此成为一个主流歌手,并且将创作领域从民谣转移到了摇滚。
《滚石》杂志资深编辑大卫·弗里克评价说:“从来没有一首流行歌曲,能够像它那样深刻地改变那个时代的商业体系与艺术观念。”
这本杂志在过去一次评选中,也曾把1965年7月25日的鲍伯·迪伦当做“摇滚史上50个瞬间”之一。那天Newport民谣音乐节在罗德岛举行。24岁的鲍伯·迪伦身穿黑裤子和绿衬衫,登台用电吉他演出。这场不成功的演出,却开启了民谣摇滚时代的来临。
大部分“最伟大歌曲”来自60年代
这次评选的评委来自各个音乐领域,其中有Motown唱片的创始人拜瑞·高迪,重金属乐队的象征奥兹·奥斯本,著名民谣歌手琼尼·米切尔,还有鲍伯·迪伦的儿子——歌手杰克伯。
《滚石》杂志近年来一直忙于各种形式的评选与排名。早在1989年,这份 杂志就曾做过一次“过去25年来最佳歌曲”的评选,那次滚石乐队的《(I Cant Get No)Satisfaction》排到了第一位,而第二名正是本次评选的头牌《like a rolling stone》。
在去年一次“摇滚史上最佳500张专辑”的评选中,披头士的《Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band》成为最为重要的一张作品,排到了第一位。
另外值得注意的是,本次入选前十名的只有一首来自上世纪90年代的作品(涅盘乐队1991年的《Smells Like Teen Spirit》),剩下的全都来自上世纪60年代。而披头士有22首作品入选,接着是滚石与鲍伯·迪伦。他们分别有13首与12首上榜。
作为自上世纪60年代见证摇滚史变迁的老牌杂志,《滚石》这般行为更像是在缅怀一个过去的时代。
